Here are this month’s faves! I have a few new brands I’ve never tried on the list: Real Techniques and elf. I’ve also added some favourites that aren’t beauty-related.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (read my review) – This little guy is going in the favourites for this month because I absolutely love it!! I picked up a pack of 4 for $20 at Winners!! I like that it has a flat side and it get so big when it’s damp that it doesn’t take long to apply foundation.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil – I use this on my chin, nose and around the nose to hydrate my dry skin. It prevents my foundation from showing the dry, flaky skin on my nose. It looks beautiful with both powder and liquid foundations. I will definitely be purchasing a full-sized bottle.
This Soo’Ae Juice Mango Glow Mask smells so good!! Obviously from the name, it smells like mangoes, but it’s not too overpowering. This one is a light orange-coloured microfiber one and it’s so soft. There was so much essence in the pack (definitely juicy), I used it on my arms and legs- It is a bit tacky after using it though. Most of the other masks say what they’re meant to do, i.e. nourish, hydrate, brighten. This one is just called the juicy mango glow mask, so you assume it just makes you glow, but it made my face feel soft and plump too.
I really like this elf Studio Matte Lip Color in Tea Rose! It stayed on pretty long and it wasn’t drying. I like how it’s thin- it’s like halfway between a bullet lipstick and a lip liner. You twist it up to get more, but you can also sharpen it by removing the pink bottom. I wouldn’t describe this as matte though, it has a bit of a lustre to it. I received this free from Topbox Circle. The only thing I don’t like is the shade because it’s a bit purple-y pink.
I received the Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance SPF50 to review and so far I love it. It has a radiant finish, so if you’re looking for full coverage, this isn’t the one to get. I haven’t put it through a full wear test to see the longevity and how well it wears with different primers, so stay tuned for my full review on the blog. I have the shade No. 23 Sand for light medium skin with neutral tones (I wear 2N in Dior Backstage Foundation for reference). I wish they had a shade between no. 23 and no. 33 (for medium skin with neutral tones). The shade I have is a bit light, but easily fixed with bronzer. What I love about this bb cushion is that it’s $49 CAD and it comes with a refill and an extra puff.
Morning Glamour Aqua Satin Pillowcase – I’ve heard that you should switch to a silk/satin pillowcase because cotton ones damage your hair and cause wrinkles. Since silk ones seem a bit expensive and I didn’t want to splurge on something that doesn’t actually make a difference, I picked this satin one up at Winners for $10. In the description of the pillowcase, it says that cotton absorbs your skincare products. I have noticed that I don’t wake up with bed head (usually my hair sticks up at the back or something) and my face does feel more hydrated. I was worried that my head would slide around, but it didn’t. The one thing about this particular pillowcase is that you don’t slide it in like a regular pillowcase, it has flaps so that it stays put. Therefore, you can only use one side of the pillowcase because the other side has a line/seam down the middle. So, if you like flipping your pillow over, find one that doesn’t have the flaps. I would consider getting a silk one in the future.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (Netflix Original movie) – A teenage girl’s secret love letters are exposed and wreak havoc on her love life.
I decided to watch this since I kept seeing everyone talking about it. I think that usually Netflix Original shows are better than their Original movies, but this one was good. It’s a cute rom-com; I don’t know if it’s one of those rom-coms that I’d watch over and over again, but I liked it. I liked that the main character, Lara Jean, didn’t undergo a transformation/makeover like you see in so many rom-coms (The Princess Diaries, Mean Girls, The Devil Wears Prada, She’s All That, etc.)
